GC Top 101
The GC TOP sealing systems developed by Hillebrand Chemicals offer a wide range of applications for visually attractive surfaces with simultaneously improved corrosion protection. They are designed to be used with GC PASS passivation. On electro depositions the combination of these two coatings influences the chemical and mechanical resistance of the entire system.
GC TOP 101 is a particularly high quality, inorganic sealant with reactive binder components (aqueous-based) for drum and centrifuge applications.
It is a sealing product that can be applied universally on zinc- and zinc alloy surfaces and offers a broad range of possible uses.
GC TOP 101 sealed surfaces experience a significant increase in corrosion protection in the salt spray and alternating climate tests.
GC TOP 101 is ideally suited for processing in dry centrifuges with hot-air injection between 80 and 120 °C. The process is usually set at 60-80%. GC TOP 101 is not prone to sticking and thus ensures the trouble-free processing of flat superimposed part geometries.
As found when using pure silicate sealants, areas that receive too much coating due to application conditions are not prone to flake formation.
A well balanced system of additives ensures uniform film formation. The dry film of 0.5 to 2.0 µm can be thermally stressed to over 200 °C, without suffering corrosion protection damage and suppresses iridescent effects.
Heating the bath to 50 °C is possible to improve the film formation.
Together with the passivation, a particularly powerful corrosion protection unit is created avoiding creep corrosion in case of any damage. Good corrosion protection is achieved after drying for just 10 minutes at 80 °C object temperature.
Corrosion resistance in accordance with DIN EN ISO 8227 depending on the substrate:
- Zinc, thick-layer passivated, GC TOP 101 WR > 44 h RR > 480 h
- Zinc-nickel, transparent passivated, GC TOP 101 WR > 240 h RR > 720 h
