In the previous years, we have continuously expanded our services before and after the coating process and invested in buildings, technologies, personnel and capacities. We are proud to offer comprehensive services in addition to our PREMIUM corrosion protection surfaces today.

Our goal is to connect subsequent work steps, which allows our customers to benefit from an optimized supply chain. By shortening transport ways and leveraging speed advantages through internal scheduling, we can reduce costs for everyone.

This is an essential part of our WHW360 concept: connecting individual departments and their competences to the advantage of our customers.

To make the best use of short transport paths, we have consolidated almost all services at our full service location in Fröndenberg.

Our services before and after finishing

In almost all cases, a production order at WHW Hillebrand encompasses three steps: before coating, the coating process itself and after coating.

Before coating, there is an opportunity for you to have your raw materials collected directly from you through our logistics and to apply services such as mass finishing and other preparatory measures. Your products are then finished with one of our comprehensive coating technologies. After coating, the value of your components can be maximized through services such as zero error sorting, thread locking, assembly and evaluations as well packaging and delivery of the fully commissioned products.

Services before the coating process

Mass finishing

The process of mass finishing is used in mechanical-chemical surface treatments to debur, polish, round, shine, clean, cut or remove paint from your products. However, its main application is the removal of surface errors and the establishment of certain surface properties. To this end, the respective components are set into motion with abrasive bodies (chips) in a work container through centrifugal force and vibration. In some cases, vibropolishing is a necessary measure before the actual coating.

Preparation for coating

During coating preparation, we perform services that isolate specific areas of a component during the coating process. For example, hollow spaces that are not supposed to be coated can be filled or sealed. We can also tape certain areas for partial coating at this stage of the process.

Services after the coating process

Zero error sorting

Highly sensitive feed pipes and screw-fitting stations of automatic assembly machines require all components to be automatically sorted and evaluated for “0 errors” in an additional process. Visual measuring mechanisms can capture a multitude of characteristics. If components are found to be outside of a tolerance parameter specified by a customer, they are reliably sorted out. This also guarantees that there is no mixing with foreign components and that no undesirable components end up in assembly.

WHW Hillebrand is conducting this evaluation work with 20 fully automatic sorting machines with different sorting and evaluation technologies to model the largest possible spectrum of component geometries.

Services after the coating process

Thread locking

Thread locking encompasses measures that prevent the unintended release or loosening of a screw joint through external influences, resulting in a loss of preload force. Screw joints that have been properly construed and reliably preloaded generally do not need additional protection. However, it is possible that dynamic strains lead to an autonomous loosening of the screw joint. This is caused by relative movements, such as vibrations, between different components in a perpendicular axial direction to the screw.

WHW Hillebrand does its coating in cooperation with MASCHERPA/Italy in accordance with the standardized thread locking products of renowned manufacturers. There was a substantial investment in modern facility technology in early 2015.

Services after the coating process

Assembly and checking

Another offer of our full service spectrum is the manual installation of assembly groups. This service comprises riveting and crimping as well as the attachment of labels, clips and sheaths. As part of our full service promise, we offer you the finalization and evaluation of your assembly group following the coating process; labeling in accordance with VDA standards; and delivery of your products directly to OEMs. This makes sense from an economic and ecological point of view.

100% quality controls through visual evaluations for surface, material and production errors are offered for components that do not lend themselves to automated evaluations, or for components that you expressly wish to be manually evaluated.

Services after the coating process

Packaging

After successfully coating and evaluating your components, we pack up your products automatically or manually, according to your specifications, into cartons or small load carriers (SLCs). Assembly groups that we install manually will be packed up in customer containers and labeled in accordance with VDA standards.

Additionally, we offer you the option to pack up and seal your products into plastic bags without further handling following the “0 error evaluation”. This allows for the gentlest treatment of your components and excludes component mixing during subsequent handling processes. There are packaging machines available for the packaging up of small components into plastic bags at exact quantities.

Logistics

We are proud to report the successful migration of our company software onto the SAP platform in 2014. As the first electroplating company worldwide, we have connected almost all the departments and locations of the WHW Hillebrand Group with SAP. Production steps were simplified and the structuring of orders optimized. The many options in our coating repertoire and our diverse, ever-expanding full service spectrum necessitated this switch – and we successfully implemented it.

We can offer you logistics solutions that include dealing with trucking companies, product deliveries to and from our consignment warehouses and the commissioning of your products.
